# Custom metrics

> Track anything the built-in metrics miss, as a number, a 1–10 scale, a yes or no, or a short text.

When the built-in metrics do not cover something, define your own. Track focus, soreness or pages read, for example.

## Kinds

| Kind | Control on Log | Good for |
| - | - | - |
| Number | A number field, with your unit | Pages read |
| Scale 1–10 | A row of taps from 1 to 10 | Focus |
| Yes / No | A single tap | Stretched today |
| Text | A one-line note, up to about 280 characters | A short note for the day |

## Create one

**1. Open Tracked metrics**

Open the menu, then Tracked metrics.

**2. Tap Create custom metric**

Give it a name and an icon, then choose its type.

**3. Add a unit (optional)**

A Number metric can have a unit, like pages or kg. The unit shows beside the field on Log.

**4. Tap Create metric**

The metric appears on the Log tab straight away.

Tap a custom metric under Tracked metrics to rename or change it.

## Where it appears

* **Log:** every custom metric appears here, with the control for its kind.
* **Quick-add:** Scale 1–10 and Yes / No metrics appear here. Number and Text metrics stay on Log.
* **Insights:** Number, Scale 1–10 and Yes / No metrics can take part in connections. Text metrics cannot. See [Insights](/help/insights).

Like every metric, a custom metric you skip on a day stays blank. VitaSync never fills in a zero.

## Archive a metric

Archiving hides a metric and keeps its history. Open it under Tracked metrics and tap Archive metric. It disappears from Log, quick-add and Insights.

Archived metrics are listed under Archived on the same screen. Tap one to bring it back. Its history was kept the whole time.

> [!TIP]
>
> Archive is the reversible choice. Use it unless you are sure you are done with the metric.

## Cloud backup

With cloud backup on, your custom metrics and their values are copied. See [Cloud backup](/help/cloud-backup).
