What counts as a connection
A connection is two metrics that rose and fell together on your logged days more often than chance would explain. Short sleep and a lower mood the next day is one example. A connection shows what moved together, not what caused what. VitaSync words every finding that way. You will read “tends to” and “moved together”, never “because”.From logged days to a finding
The sections below take each step in turn. How much data it needs
A day only counts if you logged both metrics on it. VitaSync leaves out a day you skipped and never counts it as zero. A missing mood score is not a bad mood.
Until a pair has enough days, Insights tells you how many more it needs. The wait is deliberate. With a week or two of data, almost anything can look related.
How it compares two metrics
VitaSync uses a rank correlation, called Spearman’s. It sorts your days from lowest to highest for each metric and checks whether the two orderings line up. Two things follow:- Different scales compare fairly. You can compare a 1–10 mood score, hours of sleep and pounds spent.
- One extreme day cannot dominate. A single blowout weekend moves a ranking far less than it moves an average.
Lag: a day later
Some links show up a day later. A short night can line up with a low mood the next day instead of the same one. VitaSync checks each pair three ways: the same day, and with one metric shifted a day in either direction. It keeps the strongest of the three. When that is a day apart, the finding says so, for example “the next day”. It does not look further than one day.Why it stays quiet when unsure
A confidence range. For each pair, VitaSync works out a 95% confidence range. That is the span of strengths your logged days could plausibly fit. If the range includes no link at all, the pair stays hidden, however striking it looks. Many pairs. Track 20 metrics and there are 190 pairs, with three lags each. A few will look related by pure chance. To allow for that, VitaSync ranks findings by the cautious end of their range, not the best case. Fewer is fine. The Connections section shows up to three cards. When fewer pass, you see fewer, plus a line saying how many more logged days Insights needs. Three honest connections beat a page of noise. A card shows the strength and the days behind it, for example “Moderate · based on 34 days”. It also draws both metrics on one chart at the lag it found. The comparison splits your days at your own middle value, not at a fixed number.Weekday rhythms
A weekday rhythm shows how a metric changes across the week, such as spending peaking on Fridays. VitaSync averages the metric for each weekday. It shows the rhythm only when the best and worst weekday sit at least one standard deviation apart. That is roughly the size of a normal day-to-day swing in that metric. It needs 4 weeks of data.Standout days
A standout day is a day when a metric was unusually high or low for you. The yardstick is your own usual level, not anyone else’s.Dose and response
Dose and response asks how one metric looks at different levels of another. VitaSync sorts your days into three equal groups: low, middle and high for the first metric. It then averages the second metric within each group. It shows the result only when those averages step steadily in one direction. It needs 30 days of data.Experiments
An experiment tests a change you make on purpose. Pick the change, a start day and a length, such as no alcohol for a fortnight. VitaSync compares that period with the 30 days before it, using the same confidence rules. It reports what changed during the period.Save, Not useful and Hide
Each Connections card has three actions. They only affect what Insights shows. They never edit or delete your records.
A saved finding keeps its wording, both metric names and the 60 days it covered. It stays readable if you later rename, archive or delete a custom metric. You may edit records inside that 60-day window. The card then says “The records behind this have changed since you saved it”. Days added after you saved never trigger that line.
Each saved card also links to the current evidence, the same pair over today’s window. Remove a saved finding from Saved findings. Show a hidden or dismissed one again from the collapsed Hidden and dismissed list.
